Discussion:
Did you see Xuxa?

Xuxa was on at roughly 7:35PM Central time. I hope everyone taped or
Tivoed it. (OK Matthew, you can stop drooling now :) )
As a bonus, her daughter, Sasha, was with her. I had hoped Sasha might
be allowed to say something, but whereas most everything was being done in
English this might have been impossible for Sasha. She may only know
Portuguese.
Given the DNA Sasha had to work with (For those in alt.friends: Xuxa had
plastic surgery done to help make her look as good as she does, and the Dad
is just plain UGLY), she turned out to be an adorable little girl.
Xuxa, of course, had no problem with English. Although her accent
sounded thinker than I remember it from the US show. Since my videos of her
English language show are in Arkansas (with the few remaining Wills family
VCRs), it's a little difficult for me to do a comparison.
I'd write more, but I think Richard is developing a crush on Xuxa. He
keeps jumping back to her speaking :)

Argh! I didn't have time to get online yesterday and thus missed the
announcement AND the appearance of Xuxa. I did see a bit of Jessica Simpson
performing with some guy. Yeah, she is sooo Latin, not. She is very hot
however.

Hmmm... Never thought of Jessica Simpson as Latin either.

Did anyone get her on a computer friendly format? I was switching
back and forth and I only saw her at the end of the award they were
giving... By the time I hit record, she was gone....8(

I thought she was going to perform on there, kept watching, and
nada.... Although Carlos and the lonely boys were awesome!

Thanks!

I have her on TiVo only. And I don't have the equipment to record it to
the computer. Some day I'll join the 21st century and get all the proper
cables and cards.
Dave, did you happen to capture it to computer?

She still looks good, even if only for a few seconds.

Nope. It would have been great if she had performed. I didn't watch
after Xuxa, so I missed Los Lonely Boys.

Haha, send me a postcard from the 21st century when you get there and
let me know how it is.

I don't have the equipment to get it on the computer either. I'm still
using the 200mhz P2 with Win95 that I bought back in '97.

Dang. You mean I am more advanced than you? I'm posting from a
P3 450 MHz I built a little over a year ago. I'm running WIN 98, but
only because I'm too cheap to buy more memory so I can run WIN Me.
You should look at upgrading to WIN 98 SE at the very least. I
don't think anyone supports 95 any more.

I've got a 98 CD but haven't seen any need to upgrade.

I've yet to come across anything I needed/wanted that wouldn't work
with 95.

I reformatted last year but reinstalled the same copy of 95.

It went 6 years without needing a reformat so I figured why mess
with something that's worked so well for me.

Well, there's the... uh... ya see you can... er...
'Cause it's bloody neat! OK? :)
I don't have much room to talk. I have a WIN Me disk and haven't
put it on. Of course, I don't really have enough memory. And the way
WIN Me uses memory (it's a resource hog), I would want as much as I
could get.

Most of the firewalls won't work. At least that's what my
friends Tracy and Chad told me. I was able to get into their machine
and play around. I had their permission, should anyone care. They
didn't believe people could actually do it. They aren't the most
computer literate of people.
Anyway, after I saved some pictures of the Wills house on their
computer, saved some "personal" items to my machine and deleted them
off of theirs (I put them back), they knew they needed to do
something. They looked all over the Net for a firewall that would
work with WIN 95. They stated they couldn't find anything.
Everything needed to be 98 or better.
They use DSL and shut down the computer when they don't have a
need to go on-line. Or, they disconnect the phone line from the
machine if they want to do something else with it. While not perfect,
it seems to be the only option available to them.
Do you happen to know where one can get a firewall for a WIN 95
machine?

Silly man :)
Still, not as bad as my friend Dennis. He still uses an old 486
SX 66 with WIN 3.1. It will run WIN 95, but only just.

Lindsay would tan your hide :) She, of course, just HAS to have
the latest bells and whistles. That's why she has a P4 2.8gig with
500+ megs of ram and Direct Way Internet. I'm on a P3 450MHz and a
dial-up.
I reformat about once every three months. It's not out of a
need, but because I honestly find loading software relaxing. And it
gets rid of all those orphan files that might be cluttering up my C
drive.
Oh, and to keep Nicky from having a melt down that may create
another personality, since this is no longer on-topic:

Xuxa was great at the Latin Grammy Awards, even if her appearance
was brief.

http://nobody.you.know.home.att.net/temp/atguard.zip

This is the firewall I use; it's called @Guard.

It's no longer developed or supported but it's very good.

It's also *very* user friendly and has a "learning" mode which makes
it easy to configure.

Although I don't personally use the function, it also has a web filter
to block ads (but not popups).

The company who made it sold it to Symantec a few years ago and it was
incorporated into their bloatware known as Norton Security.

For the amount of resources used, Norton should also have a song
and dance act.
I use Sygate's personal fire wall, Avast Anti-virus, and a few
ad/spy ware removal tools. Each one uses very little in overall
resources, and works quite well.
